The sky, suspended. 36mm thin.

The SkyLume PT recreates the phenomenon of Rayleigh scattering — the same optical principle that makes Earth's atmosphere appear blue — inside an ultra-thin LED panel just 36 millimeters deep. Suspended by architectural hanging wires, it transforms any ceiling into an open sky.

The Concept

Conventional artificial skylights require deep ceiling voids, complex framing, and professional installation. The SkyLume PT abandons that paradigm entirely. At just 36mm, it is among the thinnest artificial sky panels available anywhere — thin enough to mount flush against virtually any ceiling without recessing, thick enough to house the precision-engineered optical stack that produces a convincing sky effect.

The modular keel system is the structural backbone of the PT series. Extruded aluminum T-bar rails accept individual sky panels in a snap-fit arrangement, allowing you to combine multiple units into expansive sky arrays. A single 300x600mm panel suits a reading nook; a grid of 600x1200mm panels can blanket an entire open-plan office. The keel connectors handle alignment, wiring continuity, and structural load — you simply slide panels in and connect power.

Every PT panel ships with stainless steel hanging wire kits rated for permanent overhead installation. The hanging height is adjustable from 50mm to 500mm, giving you freedom to create layered ceiling planes or mount nearly flush to the slab above. Because the keel system distributes weight evenly, even large arrays remain rigid and vibration-free once tensioned.

Key Features

  • Rayleigh Scattering Optics — Multi-layer nano-particle diffuser reproduces the spectral gradient of a clear midday sky, shifting naturally from deep blue at zenith to warm white at the horizon edge.
  • Ultra-Thin 36mm Profile — The thinnest panel in the SkyLume range. No ceiling void required. Installs in suspended, surface, or keel-grid configurations.
  • High CRI >93 Ra — Colors beneath the panel appear vivid and true, matching the rendering quality of premium architectural downlights.
  • Tunable White 2100-7500K — Transition from warm candlelight tones to crisp overcast daylight. Program circadian schedules or adjust manually via app.
  • Modular Keel System — Snap-fit T-bar grid accepts unlimited panel combinations. Extend, reconfigure, or relocate your sky installation as needs change.
  • Flicker-Free LED Driver — Zero-flicker output across the entire dimming range, verified to IEEE 1789 standards. Safe for prolonged work and video conferencing.
  • Smart Control: BLE 5.0, DALI, 0-10V — Native Bluetooth Mesh for app control, plus hardwired DALI-2 and 0-10V interfaces for integration with building management systems.
  • 30,000 Hour Lifespan — Rated L70 at 30,000 hours under standard operating conditions. Designed for years of continuous commercial or residential use.

Ideal Spaces

The SkyLume PT excels in environments that lack natural overhead light. Home offices and basement studios gain a psychological connection to the outdoors. Windowless bathrooms and interior corridors feel open rather than enclosed. Commercial lobbies and reception areas benefit from the calming visual anchor of simulated sky. Restaurants and hospitality venues create atmosphere without the glare of conventional panels. Grid-ceiling office floors can replace standard 600x600 tiles with sky panels for biophilic wellness programs.

What's in the Box

  • SkyLume PT sky panel (selected size)
  • Stainless steel hanging wire kit (set of 4)
  • Modular keel T-bar rail segments
  • Keel rail connectors and end caps
  • LED driver (matched to panel wattage)
  • Quick-connect power cable
  • Installation hardware and anchors
  • User manual and wiring guide

Installation

  1. Mount the keel rails. Secure the aluminum T-bar keel rails to the ceiling using the supplied anchors. Space rails according to the panel width. Use a laser level to ensure rails are parallel and level.
  2. Attach hanging wires. Thread stainless steel wires through the keel rail mounting points and anchor into the ceiling slab or joist above. Adjust wire length to set the desired drop height. Lock with compression fittings.
  3. Slide in the panel. Align the panel edges with the keel rail channels and slide the panel into position until the snap-fit clips engage. For multi-panel arrays, start from one end and work outward.
  4. Connect power and commission. Route the driver cable through the keel channel to the panel's quick-connect port. Secure the LED driver above the ceiling plane or in a nearby junction box. Power on, pair via BLE, and configure scenes.

Frequently Asked Questions

How does artificial skylight technology work?

The SkyLume PT uses a multi-layer optical stack that includes a nano-particle diffusion film. When white LED light passes through this film, shorter blue wavelengths scatter more than longer wavelengths — precisely replicating Rayleigh scattering, the phenomenon responsible for blue sky in nature. The result is a luminous surface that appears to have depth and atmospheric color, rather than the flat, uniform glow of a conventional panel light.

Is 36mm thin enough for my ceiling?

At 36mm, the PT is thinner than most recessed downlight cans. It does not require any ceiling void at all — it hangs from wires or mounts directly to a surface. Even in rooms with minimal clearance above a drop ceiling, the PT fits comfortably. The hanging wire system allows you to position it anywhere from nearly flush to 500mm below the mounting surface.

Can I connect multiple panels together?

Yes. The modular keel system is specifically designed for multi-panel arrays. Keel rail segments connect end-to-end with inline couplers, and panels snap into the rails in sequence. Power can be daisy-chained through the keel channel, and BLE Mesh allows all panels to synchronize scenes and dimming levels automatically.

How bright is the PT panel?

The 300x600mm panel produces 1,720 lumens at 40W. The 600x600mm delivers 2,580 lumens at 60W. The largest 600x1200mm outputs 5,000 lumens at 100W. For context, a typical 2x4-foot office troffer produces around 4,000 lumens, so the PT 600x1200 exceeds that while also providing realistic sky simulation.

Can I dim it and change color temperature?

Absolutely. The PT supports full-range dimming from 100% down to 1% via any of its three control interfaces: BLE Mesh 5.0 (smartphone app), DALI-2 (building automation), or 0-10V (traditional dimmer). Color temperature is continuously tunable from 2100K warm amber through 7500K cool daylight. You can also program automated circadian schedules that shift throughout the day.

What is the warranty?

Every SkyLume PT panel is covered by Extoril's 3-year limited warranty, which includes the LED module, driver, optical films, and frame. The warranty covers manufacturing defects and premature LED degradation below L70 rated hours. Hanging hardware and keel rails carry a 5-year structural warranty.

Does it work with smart home systems?

The BLE Mesh 5.0 interface allows integration with most modern smart home platforms through the Extoril bridge accessory (sold separately). For commercial installations, the DALI-2 interface connects directly to building management and lighting control systems. The 0-10V input works with any standard low-voltage dimmer or automation controller.

How does it compare to CoeLux?

CoeLux systems use physical nano-particle layers and require 300-900mm of ceiling depth, professional installation, and budgets starting above $6,000. The SkyLume PT achieves a comparable visual effect using advanced optical film technology in just 36mm, at a fraction of the cost, with a modular system you can install yourself. While CoeLux produces a single fixed sun direction, the PT offers tunable color temperature and programmable scenes.
