SkyLume E — Vertical Daylight Panel
Direct vertical daylight. 1.5 degrees of precision.
The SkyLume E is a high-power vertical daylight panel that channels concentrated light through a 1.5-degree beam angle — the narrowest in the SkyLume range. The result is an intense column of overhead daylight that replicates the directional quality of midday sun streaming through a skylight aperture.
The Concept
Most artificial skylights prioritize wide, diffuse illumination. The SkyLume E takes the opposite approach. By focusing its considerable output — 150 to 300 watts, depending on size — through precision collimating optics, the E produces a tightly controlled beam that travels vertically downward with minimal spread. Standing beneath it, you experience the same sharp-edged pool of light you would feel under a real skylight on a cloudless afternoon. Objects cast defined shadows. Surfaces in the beam appear brightly lit while surrounding areas remain in soft ambient shade. The psychological effect is powerful: your visual system interprets the directionality, intensity, and color as genuine overhead sunlight.
The optical engine behind this effect combines Rayleigh scattering diffusion films with a secondary collimation layer — a micro-lens array that narrows the output to just 1.5 degrees. The scattering films produce the blue sky color and atmospheric depth visible when you look up at the panel. The collimation layer ensures that the light reaching your space below arrives as a coherent, directional beam rather than a broad wash. At 220mm thick, the E is the deepest panel in the SkyLume range — the additional depth accommodates the collimation optics and the high-power thermal management system required for 150-300W operation.
With a CRI of 95 Ra, the SkyLume E produces light quality that rivals the best professional lighting instruments. Skin tones, textiles, wood grains, and artwork appear vivid and dimensionally rich. The tunable CCT range allows you to shift from warm golden-hour tones at 2700K through neutral daylight at 5000K to cool overcast at 6500K, giving you creative control over the character of your overhead daylight.
Key Features
- 1.5-Degree Beam Angle — Precision collimating optics produce the narrowest beam in the SkyLume series. Creates defined pools of directional light with sharp shadow edges, replicating the quality of direct overhead sunlight.
- 150-300W High Power — The 600x600mm square operates at 150W; the 600x1200mm rectangle at 300W. Output ranges from 5,000 to over 10,000 lumens, delivering genuinely intense overhead illumination.
- CRI 95 Ra — Best-in-class color rendering. The E is suitable for art galleries, photography studios, high-end retail, and any environment where color accuracy under daylight is critical.
- Rayleigh Scattering Sky Layer — The upper diffusion surface produces the characteristic blue-sky depth effect when viewed from below. The sky appearance and the directional beam coexist — look up and see sky, look down and see sunlight.
- 220mm Precision Profile — The deepest panel in the range, housing the collimation optics and active thermal management. Requires ceiling void or surface-mount clearance of at least 230mm.
- Active Thermal Management — Integrated heat pipe system maintains LED junction temperatures within optimal range at sustained high power. No external fans — convection-cooled with internal heat pipes for silent operation.
- Tunable White 2700-6500K — Adjustable color temperature for creative lighting scenes. Warm golden hour, neutral midday, or cool overcast — all from a single fixture.
- Smart Control: BLE 5.0 / DALI / 0-10V — Full integration capability with residential and commercial control systems.
Ideal Spaces
The SkyLume E is the definitive choice for spaces that demand the most realistic overhead sky experience. Art galleries and museums benefit from its precise beam control and exceptional CRI, which reveal texture and color in exhibited works. High-end residential spaces — double-height living rooms, atriums, stairwells — gain a dramatic overhead light source that anchors the architectural volume. Photography and videography studios use the E to simulate overhead daylight for product shoots and portraits. Luxury retail environments position E panels over key merchandise displays to create pools of warm, directional light. Wellness spaces, meditation rooms, and spa treatment areas use the calming sky effect overhead to create contemplative atmospheres with genuine perceived depth.

Installation
- Assess ceiling clearance. Verify at least 230mm of ceiling void or mounting clearance above the installation point. For recessed installation, cut the ceiling opening using the included template. For surface mount, secure the bracket kit to the ceiling structure.
- Mount the driver. Position the high-power LED driver within 2 meters of the panel location. The driver must be mounted in a ventilated area — do not enclose it in insulation. Secure to ceiling slab, joist, or bracket.
- Install the panel. For recessed: lower the panel into the ceiling opening and secure with the recessed mounting frame clips. For surface mount: attach the panel to the pre-installed bracket kit. In either case, attach the safety wire to the ceiling structure as secondary support.
- Connect power and commission. Connect the quick-connect cable between panel and driver. Energize the circuit and verify operation. Pair with the Extoril BLE app to configure CCT, dimming, and scheduling. Adjust beam aim if using surface-mount brackets with tilt adjustment.
Frequently Asked Questions
What makes the 1.5-degree beam special?
A 1.5-degree beam angle means the light from the SkyLume E is almost perfectly collimated — it travels straight down with very little spread. This creates a sharply defined pool of light on the floor and surfaces below, with objects casting crisp, directional shadows just as they would under real overhead sunlight. Most artificial skylights use wide beam angles (120 degrees or more) that produce diffuse, ambient light. The E is the only model in the SkyLume range engineered for directional, sun-like overhead illumination.
How much heat does it generate?
At 150-300W, the SkyLume E produces significant heat. The internal heat pipe system transfers thermal energy from the LED array to the aluminum housing, where it dissipates through convection. Surface temperatures on the housing may reach 50-60 degrees Celsius during sustained operation. Ensure adequate airflow around the unit — at least 50mm clearance on all sides when recessed, or unobstructed ventilation when surface-mounted. The system includes thermal protection that reduces output if junction temperatures exceed safe limits.
Can I use the E for plant lighting?
While the E produces high-intensity, high-CRI light with a spectrum that includes photosynthetically active wavelengths, it is not specifically engineered as a horticultural light. It lacks dedicated far-red and UV-A channels that dedicated grow lights provide. However, for ornamental plants and moderate-light species positioned directly beneath the beam, the E's output characteristics are supportive. It is particularly effective for maintaining indoor trees and large potted plants in atriums and commercial lobbies.
What is the difference between the Square and Rectangle?
The 600x600mm Square produces 5,000+ lumens at 150W, suitable for accent pools and focused overhead features. The 600x1200mm Rectangle doubles the output to 10,000+ lumens at 300W, creating a larger beam footprint and substantially brighter illumination. Choose the Square for single-position highlights — above a desk, reading chair, or art piece. Choose the Rectangle for larger coverage — above dining tables, gallery walls, or workstations.
Is the sky effect visible with such a narrow beam?
Yes. The sky effect is produced by the Rayleigh scattering film layer, which is visible when you look up at the panel face from any angle. The collimation layer sits behind the scattering film, narrowing the output beam that passes through. So the visual experience is: look up and see a luminous blue sky with atmospheric depth — look down and see a crisp, defined pool of directional light on your surfaces. The two effects coexist by design.
Can I dim the E?
The E supports full-range dimming from 100% to 5% via BLE, DALI-2, or 0-10V. At lower dimming levels, the beam angle widens slightly due to the optical characteristics of the collimation array, but the directional quality is maintained. Color temperature remains independently adjustable across the full 2700-6500K range at any dimming level.
What is the warranty?
Extoril provides a 3-year limited warranty on the SkyLume E, covering LED modules, driver, optical components (including collimation array), and housing. The heat pipe thermal system carries a 5-year warranty. The warranty covers manufacturing defects and premature luminous degradation.
How does it compare to other SkyLume models?
The E is the performance flagship. Where the PT, PL, and PY prioritize wide, ambient sky illumination with 120-degree beam angles, the E focuses its output into a 1.5-degree column for directional, sun-like overhead light. It operates at higher wattages (150-300W vs 40-160W), produces the highest CRI (95 Ra vs 93 Ra), and uses a deeper 220mm housing to accommodate collimation optics. Choose the E when realism and directionality matter more than broad ambient coverage.
