A window where there is none.

The SkyLume PX is a wall-mounted artificial window that projects the depth and color of an open sky into windowless rooms. Four precision-tuned sky panels arranged in a 2x2 grid create a convincing window aperture, complete with the soft blue gradient and luminous depth produced by Rayleigh scattering optics.

The Concept

Not every room has the luxury of a window. Basement apartments, interior offices, underground commercial spaces, and medical treatment rooms often lack any visual connection to the outside world. Research consistently links windowless environments to reduced wellbeing, lower productivity, and disrupted circadian rhythms. The SkyLume PX addresses this directly — it creates the visual and photobiological experience of a real window on any interior wall.

The PX consists of four individual sky panels, each measuring 527 x 227mm, arranged within a single integrated frame to form a 2x2 window grid. The overall assembled unit measures 1332 x 781 x 66mm — roughly the proportions of a standard residential window. The frame is finished in matte aluminum with clean mullion lines that reinforce the architectural illusion. When illuminated, the four panels produce a seamless sky field with a combined output exceeding 10,000 lumens at 160 watts.

What sets the PX apart from decorative light boxes is its biological rhythm mode. The onboard circadian controller automatically adjusts color temperature and intensity throughout the day — warm golden tones in the morning, bright neutral daylight at midday, and gradually dimming amber in the evening. This programmed cycle supports the body's natural melatonin and cortisol patterns, making the PX a genuine tool for human-centric lighting design, not just an aesthetic feature.

Key Features

  • Rayleigh Scattering Window — Four-panel optical array reproduces atmospheric sky depth on a vertical wall surface. The effect is visible from wide angles, maintaining the illusion as you move through the room.
  • 10,000+ Lumens Output — Bright enough to serve as primary ambient lighting for rooms up to 25 square meters. The high output creates the convincing impression of actual daylight entering through the window.
  • Biological Rhythm Mode — Automated circadian program shifts color temperature from 2700K morning warmth through 6500K midday peak and back to 2200K evening wind-down. Supports natural sleep-wake cycles in windowless environments.
  • CRI 95 Ra — Exceptional color rendering ensures skin tones, artwork, and interior finishes appear natural and vivid under the PX's light, matching the rendering quality of north-facing daylight.
  • Architectural Frame Design — Matte aluminum frame with integrated mullion bars creates a realistic multi-pane window appearance. The 66mm profile sits close to the wall without appearing bulky.
  • 160W Efficient Driver — High-efficiency constant-current driver with power factor correction. Full-range dimming from 100% to 1% without flicker or color shift.
  • Wall-Mount Installation — Mounts directly to any solid wall using included heavy-duty brackets. No electrical box required — hardwire or plug-in connection options included.
  • Smart Control: BLE 5.0 / DALI / 0-10V — Bluetooth app for residential users, DALI-2 for commercial building integration, 0-10V for legacy dimming systems.

Ideal Spaces

The PX was designed for any interior wall that would benefit from the presence of a window. Basement living rooms and bedrooms gain a psychological anchor to the outdoors. Therapist offices and medical examination rooms become less clinical and more calming. Corporate interior offices offer employees a sense of openness. Hotel rooms without exterior views gain a premium amenity. Underground retail and hospitality venues create inviting, daylit atmospheres that encourage longer visits.

  • Heavy-duty wall-mount bracket set
  • LED driver unit (160W)
  • Power cable with hardwire junction box adapter
  • Wall anchors and mounting hardware
  • BLE pairing guide and app download card
  • Installation manual with wiring diagrams

Installation

  1. Position and mark. Hold the mounting bracket template against the wall at the desired height. Mark anchor points using a level to ensure the unit will hang plumb. Recommended center height is 1400mm from floor — typical window sill height.
  2. Secure brackets. Drill anchor points and fix the heavy-duty wall brackets using the supplied hardware. For drywall, use the included toggle bolts rated for the unit's 30 kg weight. For masonry, use expansion anchors.
  3. Hang the unit. With a second person assisting, lift the PX22 unit and hook it onto the wall brackets. The bracket design allows fine vertical adjustment after hanging. Verify level and lock the position.
  4. Connect power and commission. Route the driver cable to the nearest power source. The driver can be mounted behind the unit, above a ceiling, or in an adjacent closet. Power on, pair via the Extoril BLE app, and activate biological rhythm mode.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I mount it horizontally on a ceiling?

The PX is engineered as a wall-mount unit with its weight distribution, bracket system, and viewing angles optimized for vertical installation. For ceiling-mount applications, consider the SkyLume PL (surface mount) or PY (recessed) models, which are purpose-built for horizontal overhead use.

How heavy is it?

The fully assembled PX22 weighs 30 kg. The included wall brackets are rated for this load on both drywall (with toggle bolts) and masonry (with expansion anchors). We recommend two people for lifting and hanging the unit during installation.

Does it really look like a window?

The PX uses the same Rayleigh scattering optical technology found across the SkyLume range. The four-panel grid with aluminum mullion bars closely mimics the proportions of a real multi-pane window. When viewed from typical room distances, the depth effect and sky color gradient create a convincing impression of an exterior view. The illusion is strongest in rooms where the PX is the primary light source.

What is biological rhythm mode?

Biological rhythm mode is an automated circadian lighting program built into the PX controller. It gradually shifts color temperature and brightness throughout the day to align with your natural sleep-wake cycle — warm and gentle in the morning, bright and cool at midday, dim and amber in the evening. This supports healthy melatonin and cortisol rhythms, particularly important in spaces without access to natural daylight.

How much wall space do I need?

The PX22 measures 1332 x 781mm — approximately 1.3 meters wide by 0.8 meters tall. Allow at least 50mm clearance on each side for bracket access and airflow. A clear wall area of roughly 1.5 x 0.9 meters is ideal.

Can I use it as the only light source in a room?

With over 10,000 lumens of output, the PX22 can serve as the primary ambient light source for rooms up to approximately 25 square meters. For larger spaces or task-intensive work, supplementary lighting may be desirable. The PX's high CRI of 95 Ra ensures excellent color rendering even as the sole light source.

What is the warranty?

The SkyLume PX is covered by Extoril's 3-year limited warranty, encompassing the LED modules, driver, optical panels, and frame assembly. The wall-mount brackets carry a 5-year structural warranty.

Does it generate heat?

At 160W, the PX produces moderate heat comparable to a standard 150W incandescent bulb. The aluminum frame acts as a passive heatsink, dispersing heat evenly across the back surface. There is no fan — operation is completely silent. Allow at least 30mm of clearance behind the unit for convective airflow.
